Prek Toal Core Area Birds,Floating Village
Departure in early morning, at 5:15 am, pick up at the hotel to visit Prek Toal Core Area of the Tonle Sap Lake, the world’s largest floodplain lake and largest fresh water in Southeast Asia. It is surrounded by seasonally inundated swamp forest, grassland, shrub land and deepwater rice (Biome AS12: indo-Genetic plain). It is the most important breeding area and the last, largest colonies in South East Asia for several threatened water bird species, includingSpotbilled Pelican Pelecanus Philippensis, Lesser Adjutant Leptoptilos Javanicus and Greater Adjutant Leptoptilos dubius, Asian Openbill Anastomus oscitans, Painted Stork Mycteria Leucocephala, Milky Stork Mycteria cinerea, Black-headed Ibis Threskiornis melanocephalus, Glassy Lbis Plegadis falcinellus, Black Kite Milvus Migrans, Brahminy Kite Haliatur indus.
Moreover, Tonle Sap is a famous, exceptional, unique eco-system, recognized as Natural Heritage of the world; It was approved by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve in October 1997. It is part of a multi bio-diverse environment. There are 170 villages (80 000 Villages) on the lake, including Prek Toal Village (800 families = 4 000 villagers). In the floating village of Prek Toal there are 10 families participating with village tour management.
SCHEDULE FOR VISITING
– Most of the morning is dedicated to bird watching along the waterways and the lakeshore around the core area of the biosphere reserve.
– Typical lunch with cold drinks will be served to you at around 12:00PM in the floating village of Prek Toal a traditional village living a floating life style (including fishing, handicraft production, trading, crocodile and fish raising). After lunch the HSR specialized guide will facilitate and conduct you to visit the community-based Floating Village, as mention bellow:
1- Recent services provided to visitors when requested
- Activities of handicraft women at water byacinth workshop
- Visit crocodile raising at CBVV (Community-Based Village Visit) members
- Visit floating garden at CBVV members
- Visit fish raising at CBVV members
- Visit an activity of a diver who specializes in finding lost objects
2- Supporting commitment to the community
The Objective of local development, related to supporting to villagers with generating alternative incomes from village visit rather than huge using of valuable natural resources, to be involved with villages. HSR assists to promote their services: local typical handicraft product; and help the visitors to explore those site, that is the opportunity of sustainable development related Eco-tourism.
The trip focuses on the birds and Prek Toal floating village around the biosphere reserve, and visitors can learn about other environments encountered on the lake. Experience the sunrise and sunset on the lake, it’s an amazing part of the planet. Return back to the HOTEL AT around 6:00 pm, but half day or overnight trip can be organized on request.
Condition of Booking:
– Any booking can be taken, at least 2 days in advance before departure.
– Deposit 50% of the total cost, before departure day and rest of the balance will be paid the end of the trip to our specialized guide with the official receipt.

– HSR invites visitors to relax and discover our unique planet and to see the lifestyle of the village families living in Cambodia, to understand where and how they survive in a remote area with the natural resource environment.
– Promoting CBVV in Cambodia is part of HSR’s spirit and responsibility to the people. We empower and promote any stakeholder who works directly and indirectly, aiming to raise alternative income generation for the poor and poorest local people. This is the priority in the remote area.
– Raising understanding of livelihood development, linking with conservation to be sustainable for well-being of involved families and teaching them how to generate alternative benefits from tourists.
– To implement the poverty reduction campaign using Eco-tourism, the strategic plan recommended by the Royal Government of Cambodia.
Booking Eco-tourism through HSR, is offering employment to local people, especially needy villagers in remote areas around Cambodia.
